10 Hidden Beaches on Oahu Only Locals Know About
While Waikiki Beach draws millions of visitors each year, Oahu has dozens of lesser-known stretches of sand that offer solitude, stunning scenery, and incredible snorkeling. You just need a car to reach them.
1. Cockroach Cove (Halona Cove)
Just past the Halona Blowhole lookout, scramble down the rocks to this tiny, picture-perfect cove. It's the beach from the famous "From Here to Eternity" scene. Arrive early — parking is limited.
2. Moku Nui Island Beach
Technically an offshore islet, you can kayak to Moku Nui from Lanikai Beach. The crescent-shaped beach on the backside is pristine and rarely crowded.
3. Kahana Bay Beach
On the windward coast between Kualoa and Punalu'u, this long crescent of sand backed by mountains is perfect for a peaceful picnic. The water is calm and shallow.
4. Yokohama Bay (Keawa'ula)
At the very end of the Farrington Highway on the west side, this wild, undeveloped beach feels like the end of the world. Great for sunset watching.
5. Malaekahana Beach
Between Laie and Kahuku on the North Shore, this state recreation area has a long, uncrowded beach with views of Goat Island. You can wade to the island at low tide.
6-10: More Hidden Gems
Other favorites include Mokule'ia Beach (across from Dillingham Airfield), Papailoa Beach in Haleiwa, Ka'ena Point, Waimanalo Bay (technically not hidden but massively underrated), and Secret Island at Kualoa Ranch.
Getting there is half the adventure. With a ReefRide rental, your car is waiting at HNL when you land — and we'll deliver to your Waikiki hotel or North Shore rental for an extra fee if you prefer.
