One of the most striking beaches in Hawaii: jet-black volcanic sand meeting turquoise blue water, framed by sea caves, blowholes, and lush green cliffs. Part of Wai'anapanapa State Park, this beach is also culturally sacred to Native Hawaiians. The park includes hiking trails to blow holes and a freshwater cave.
Tip: Reservations are now required for entry to Wai'anapanapa State Park — book online at dlnr.hawaii.gov well in advance. The black sand gets extremely hot in the sun; bring water shoes.
